ou’re driving through the road construction of St. James when an unavoidable pothole appears before you. Crunch!


Off goes your hubcap, as it’s jarred free by the collision.


You only realize this when you reach your destination and discover it’s missing. You have no idea where it might be, as you must have hit a dozen potholes on your short trip. You groan at the prospect of forking over more than a hundred bucks to your dealer for a new hubcap. Enter Hubcap Man. Baldur Holm, a.k.a. Hubcap Man, actually started the


business of collecting and selling hubcaps in a very similar manner to that scenario. “I bought a new car in 1990, and right off the bat I had lost


the hubcap,” said Baldur. “So I went to a dealer and paid $125 for a hubcap and got it installed. Right away I lost another one. I was too cheap to spend that much again, so I found a guy in St. Boniface that had one. I put it on the car myself and I lost it on the way home.” Baldur started looking for his hubcaps on the street. He


saw many hubcaps while driving the street of the city with his job as a Winnipeg Transit bus driver, and began circling Hubcaps page 9
