scores after the freestyle. Jumping attracted 40 entrants, but only 19 finished all of the rounds comprising the World Cup.

STUDBOOKS When it comes to studbooks, the KWPN led in dressage with horses finishing in first, second, third, fourth, eighth and 16th and claimed two of the top jumpers (fourth and sixth). However, a closer look at these Dutch Warmblood horses reveals that the dressage horses actually descend from Oldenburg, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Westphalen, Hanove- rian and even Hackney lines, while the KWPN jumpers show Westpha- len, Selle Français and Holsteiner up close in their pedigrees. In jumping, the Belgian Warmblood studbook (BWP) claimed horses in fifth, 15th, 16th and 19th while the Belgian Sport Horse studbook (sBs) claimed those in second and ninth. Neither claimed any dressage horses. The horses in the two Belgian registries were of Selle Français, Hanoverian, KWPN, Holsteiner and Thoroughbred heritage. There were also five Holsteiner horses among the top jumpers, but they were each of predominantly Holsteiner ancestry. Other studbooks in dressage include Swiss Warmblood, Rheinlander, Trakehner, Danish

Warmblood, Oldenburg, Hungarian Sport Horse, Hanoverian and Westphalen. Those not already mentioned in jumping include Selle Français, Anglo European Studbook, Irish Sport Horse and Westphalen.

INFLUENTIAL ANCESTORS For dressage, Ferro (Ulft/Farn) was clearly one of the most influ- ential ancestors in Las Vegas. He is the paternal grandsire of Valegro (first), sire of Glock’s Undercover (second) and maternal grandsire of Painted Black (eighth). In addition, both Ulft and
