done at 1220. Most of the boats sailed right out of the harbor and headed for the next day’s races at Rockland. The weather fore- cast was not looking good, rain and wind. Driving up from Boothbay in the morning I found heavy pockets of rain and hoped we might luck out and have a band of light rain in Rockland, but that was not the case. It was pouring and some wondered if we would cancel. There were even rumors on Facebook saying it had been cancelled, which just proves not everything you read on the Internet is true. Another problem was the City of Rockland hit the racers with a $2 per foot charge, which did not go over well. Sign ups were slow and one thought all we would get was 10 boats, but I knew a number of boats had come up from Booth- bay and they would all race. A little rain was not going to slow them up. In the end there was just 28 boats entered, and under the circumstances that was not too bad. We got out on the course and it was still pouring, but like the post offi ce used to say, through rain, sleet or snow. The fi rst races were the three work boat classes, but only one brave soul decided to compete, Marshall Spear in J-BIRD. He should have got a special award for being the only open boat to compete. Next up was the fi ve gasoline classes, but again there were no entrants in Class A and E and there was only one entrant in Class B, Donald Hilt, Jr’s. MARDON [Webbers Cove 29; 350-hp Chevrolet]; Class C BLACK DIAMOND, and Class D

LITTLE GIRLS. We ran them all together with each getting the win in their respective classes. In the actual race it was all LITTLE GIRLS, followed by BLACK DIAMOND and MARDON. At this point it was raining so hard we could not get the radar gun to read through the wall of rain and my digital camera was having a hard time trying to focus.

Next up was the diesel classes. In the

fi rst race we combined Class A, B, C, D and E, which all had one entrant with the excep- tion of B, whom had two. LYNN MARIE took fi rst in A; EASY MONEY fi rst in C; WHISTLER [38’, 265-hp John Deere] fi rst in D and MISS KATIE fi rst in E. In Class B Bill Oliver’s KAREN LYNN [South Shore 34; 220-hp John Deere] was able to just outpace Cory McDonald’s HELLO DAR- LIN’ II [Holland 32]. In Diesel Class F three boats came to the line, MS ROSE, QUICK STEP, Thomas McLennan’s TRUE NORTH [36 BHM, 375-hp John Deere] and VEN- GEANCE. As the came up the course there was no question that MS. ROSE was in the lead, with QUICK STEP second and TRUE NORTH third. In Class G it was a repeat of Boothbay, between HAPPY HOUR and SEACOCK with the same result. In Class H, TURN THE PAGE was back and he had a new opponent in Bryant Ciomei’s YIPPI- KA-YAY [Calvin Beal 36, 450-hp Volvo], but again had little trouble getting by for the win. Another race with the same competitors as in Boothbay was Class I with MISTY and WILD ONE and again the results were the
