and LITTLE GIRLS making their way up the course. There is nothing better than the sound of a high-powered gasoline engine with straight pipes. As they got half way Shawn gave a little more throttle to LITTLE GIRLS and about three quarters of the way he added even more as she streaked over the fi nish line with a speed of 45 mph. It was unknown why THUNDERBOLT had not made the start, but someone said he had heard her out that morning and she was not running very well. Hopefully she can make it down to Bass Harbor as last year she showed she could be very competitive.
Before the diesel classes, Boothbay
offers a race for the Fastest Working Lob- ster Boat from Boothbay, which was won by Andrew Taylor’s BLUE EYED GIRL [Calvin Beal 36, 650-hp Scania]. Second went to John Albaum’s WOUND UP [36 Crowley, 450-hp Scania] and George War- ren’s CHARGER. Next up were the Wooden Boat races.
The fi rst race Wooden Boat (A) (Any hp, up to 35 feet 11 inches) had just one entrant, LITTLE GIRLS; so we combined him with the Wooden Boat (B) (Any hp, 36 feet and over), which had four boats entered. We all know who would win and LITTLE GIRLS

did not disappoint us. The real battle was between the other four boats, all built by John’s Bay Boat Company in South Bristol: Alan Dugas’ DELUSIONAL [38’ John’s Bay Boat, 600-hp Cummins]; Eben Wilson’s ELSIE H.; Scott Dugas’ SILVER DOLLAR III [41’ John’s Bay Boat, 700-hp Caterpil- lar]; and Vance Bunker’s SARI ANN [42’ John’s Bay Boat, 660-hp Volvo]. The two Dugas brothers were battling it out all the way up the course, but at the end DELU- SIONAL slipped by for the top spot with SAND DOLLARS III back a boat length. Next over was SARI ANN closely followed by ELSIE H.
Now up were the diesel classes, for a total of 16 races. There was only on entrant in Class A (Up to 235 hp, 24 to 31 feet), Steve Johnson’s LYNN MARIE [Jingle Johnson 28; 230-hp Isuzu]; Class B (Up to 235 hp, 32 feet and over), Nick Thibault’s SANDRA ANN [Young Brothers 33; 210- hp Cummins]; Class C (236 to 335 hp, 24 to 33 feet), David Grant’s EASY MONEY [Northern Bay 28; 218-hp Sisu]; Class D (236 to 335 hp, 34 feet over), Justin Papkee’s PULL N’ PRAY [Repco 37; 325-hp Cater- pillar]; and Class E (336 to 435 hp, 24 to 33 feet), Nick Wiberg’s MISS KATIE [Holland 31; 355 hp Cummins]. They were all getting fi rst in their classes, but who would actually

fi nish fi rst? Right at the drop of the fl ag it was all EASY MONEY with a speed of 35.9 mph, followed by LYNN MARIE and MISS KATIE. In Class F (336 to 435 hp, 34 feet and over), three boats came to the line. The boat to beat for the last several years has been Ed Torosian’s MS, ROSE [Mitchell Cove 35; 410-hp Sisu]. As the racers came up the course MS. ROSE had a sizeable lead over second place Kevin Glover’s QUICKSTEP [Young Brothers 35; 405-hp Cummins]. He was followed over by Erick Harjula’s REDEEMED [MDI 37, 430-hp Cummins]. In Class G (436 to 550 hp, 28 to 35 feet) Todd Ritchie’s SEACOCK [Calvin Beal 34; 436-hp Sisu] and Zach Donnell’s HAPPY HOUR [Mitchell Cove 35; 500-hp John Deere] would do battle. Zach said that he had a new propeller on, but he did not gain any speed with the engine working
harder. Following the race he was sched- uled to haul out at Paul Luke’s yard in East Boothbay and put on the old propeller. As they came up the course SEACOCK was in the lead with HAPPY HOUR back three boats lengths. In Class H (436 to 550 hp, 36 feet and over) Travis Otis’ FIRST TEAM [Northern Bay 36, 410-hp Sisu 645] was a no show. Carl Gray’s TURN THE PAGE [Crowley 36; 450-hp Cummins] came over from Stonington and competed against John Albaum’s WOUND UP. For the fi rst part of last year FIRST TEAM was the dominate boat, but TURN THE PAGE showed up at Stonington and by Winter Harbor become the boat to beat in this class. In this race it was all TURN THE PAGE who crossed the fi nish line with a speed of 37.1 mph. The next class up was I (551 to 700 hp, 28 to 35 feet) and this renewed last year’s battle
