Author: Clive James Publisher: Picador Classic
I first read this book way back in the 1980s... given to me as a gift by my Mum after she saw me reading the regular Clive James TV critic column in the Sunday Observer. The book made me laugh then and once again it has made me laugh on the re-read.
The story is about Clive James growing up in Australia in the second half of the past century (40s 50s 60s etc). The opening line reads “I was born in 1939. The other big event of that year was the outbreak of World War II”. The start of the book is brilliant and it gets better as it goes along. If you like autobiographies with a keen sense of humour and that are well written then this book will not disappoint.
Keep reading and laughing... Ivor Kindle.
