Quesada Bowls Club report Sponsored by
We are now into the start of the Spring/Summer League season, where the Blenheims and the Lancasters feature in the SABA League and the Federated Lions and Tigers in the Valencian Championship League. Currently there are no signs of who is in line to win these leagues as, over the first few games the league positions are changing each week!
A special mention this month to our club members who played in the Costa Blanca Champion of Champions where it is pleasing to report some very good results.
Well done to Melanie Highland (see photo) who took the Ladies Singles championships with an impressive display of bowling throughout the whole week.
Melanie also partnered Jacqui
Johnson in the final of the ladies pairs, only losing by one shot. Melanie was in action again in the final of the mixed fours, leading our team with Peta Rhodes, John Muldoon and Colin Highland, but despite a hard fought battle, the team took second place.
At the time of writing this report the Spanish National Championships have just got underway and will last for two weeks from 10th May, with Quesada Bowls Club being one of the host clubs, where the finals will take place on 22nd and 23rd May, and we are anticipating some fantastic displays of bowling.
Prior to the Championships the club was proud to host a day of bowls with the players from Tenerife, who will be playing in the competition. This is always a great day of bowling and
camaraderie and has become an annual event. At the close of the day the players from both clubs joined together for a meal.
We are about to welcome back, ready to defend their numerous National Titles, Pete and Lisa Bonsor, who have been in Australia representing Spain in the World
Indoor
Championships at Warilla Bowls Club. This is a familiar venue for Lisa and Pete as they recently spent a few years in the area with Pete running a large bowls club and where, in the not too distant future they are intending to return.
The Club at Quesada, which is our base, has recently been taken over by one of our players John Muldoon, and the bowlers wish him every success in this venture.
