ow, 20 years seems like just yesterday in some respect and a lifetime ago in others. Tat is

how long DATIA has been in existence. Founded in 1995 by Jeffrey C. Smith in response to a growing need by drug and alcohol testing service providers for clear leadership and Washington representation, the association has continually grown over the years in response to the needs of the industry and its members. Still, DATIA holds true to its original

mission: A. To promote the highest possible standards of professionalism and quality control in the drug and al- cohol testing industry, and develop and oversee education, certification, and accreditation programs for the drug and alcohol testing industry;

B. To serve as the coordinated voice for the industry on regulatory and legislative maters of drug and alcohol testing and collection issues as well as drug free workplace regulatory issues;

C. To serve as a body for discussion and resolution of common prob-

F. To actively cooperate with other entities, organizations, and service providers involved with or affected by drug and alcohol testing on com- mon interests and concerns, includ- ing but not limited to, substance abuse professionals, substance abuse program administrators, employee assistance professionals, Medical Review Officers, testing laboratories and employer trade associations. DATIA’s membership first consisted of

mostly collection facilities and was at the time called the National Association of Collection Sites. Due to the increasing diversification of services provided by its members, the as- sociation’s name was officially changed to the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Associa- tion (DATIA) in September 1998. Despite the name change, the mission has always remained steadfast—to serve the in the best interests of those involved in workplace drug and alcohol testing. While now there are more than 1,500 DATIA members, we started with 102 Charter Members, who will be recognized at the 2015 Annual Conference. While diversification of services by mem-

bers has changed, so has the make-up of the membership. While the majority of DATIA’s members continue to be small businesses, it has grown to include large corporations and large employers all equally involved in drug and alcohol testing, all equally wanting qual- ity education, quality information on news and actions affecting their drug and alcohol testing operations, and representation in Washington on issues affecting them.

DATIA is proud of its growth, but even

more so proud of its members and their dedication to upholding the highest of in- dustry standards. Each and every member is a testament to the benefits of drug and al- cohol testing and a testament to the reason that DATIA was originally founded. During the 2015 conference a presenta-

tion will be made on the strides of DATIA over the last 20 years (for those not at- tending the conference, this will be made available online aſter the conference). All of these new benefits, programs, and initia- tives have been on behalf of the members and many have been made based on mem- ber comments about their needs. DATIA strives to serve its members and provide them the resources that they need, so we encourage you to provide us feedback on any issues that you may be having. Many new programs are being unveiled in 2015 including the Marijuana Outreach Fund, the Diana Bauske Educational Scholarship Fund, three new training courses, and more online training and resource options. We trust that these will continue to meet DATIA’s primary mis- sion of providing quality education and resources to the industry. On a final note, on behalf of the entire

DATIA Management Team and Board of Directors, I would like to thank each of our members for your continued support. DATIA is here to serve you, and without your support and input would not be able to do so. You have our sincere thanks for upholding the standards of the industry and promoting the benefits of drug-free workplaces. ❚

Best,

Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director
