12 Maidstone Borough Council Louise and Phoebe Duke
Louise Duke has been working as an Environmental Crime Warden in our Environmental Enforcement department for 6 years. The team works to tackle issues such as fly tipping, dog fouling and litter, and to promote responsible dog ownership through the new initiative, RK9.
What do you like most about your job?
Being able to go out and make a difference, and to help tidy the borough up!
What do you not like about your job? Working outside in all weathers can sometimes be quite challenging, and you spend quite a lot of time looking at dog poo!
What does good customer service mean to you?
I’m out and about a lot, so I’m always ready to speak to members of the public from all walks of life about the work we’re doing. It’s also good to be able to give feedback when information that a resident has given has helped to get a job done.
Phoebe is Louise’s chocolate Labrador – she’s 11 years old, and loves to help out when Louise and her colleagues are promoting RK9 Responsible Dog Ownership! As Louise explains, “When Phoebe’s with us, more people approach us for a chat, which helps us explain what we’re doing, and let people know how they can help. It also shows people that we aren’t anti-dog – we just want to encourage people to be responsible dog owners, as the majority of people are.”
