News from the MUSEUM Brick City

Admission charges apply

Our summer blockbuster family exhibition is one not to be missed! Brick City is a stunning range of architechtural landmarks from the UK and around the world, all built in LEGO® bricks! There will be lots of activities to take part in, including a 2 metre long LEGO® mosaic for visitors to help complete each Friday and Saturday, plus masses of LEGO® to create models to add to our scene! Admission charges apply.

Museum lates

Admission is free; some activities may incur a charge.

Our exciting new series of ‘Lates’, opening until 9pm on the last Thursday of each month, sees us going Egyptian on 28 May. Visitors can watch a belly dance performance and then have a go themselves, and create their own Eye of Horus to take home. Our curators will be giving short talks on our Egyptian collection, giving you a special insight into them.

Explore the Iron Age

On 25 June we’ll focus on local produce, with independent cheese, beer and cider producers taking over the museum for the evening, giving you a taste of their wares and the opportunity to buy. Our curators will be talking about the local industries that have shaped this area over the last 250 years and showing visitors related artefacts. Our café/bar is open throughout the evening.

£20 adults, £5 children – booking essential On Saturday 16 May we are combining museum activities with a field trip, to explore Iron Age Power in Kent. Dr Steve Willis of the University of Kent will talk to older visitors, whilst a craft workshop for children (8+) will run at the same time, to create replica artefacts. After a buffet lunch (provided) we drive to Oldbury Hillfort to explore its banks and ditches. Numbers are strictly limited for this adventure, so early booking is advised. For more details ring 01622 602862.

Out of the blue Free

A group of 24 Kent artists, known as Pump Lane, is exhibiting its ‘Out of the Blue’ show from 16 May to 21 June – entry is free for this exhibition of oils, acrylics and 3D works produced over a four year period.

Dino Day!

Our most fabulous visitor arrives on the 13 June for Dino Day! Meet Rex, a 15 foot long T.Rex junior; he’s fast, he’s loud and he’s SCARY! Rex will be appearing at intervals throughout the day in our café courtyard. Also that day are Dinosaur SFX workshops for 10-16 year olds in the morning, and 16+ in the afternoon, where you can learn to produce amazing TV and film special effects, including velociraptor attack wounds and scaly dinosaur skin. Numbers are limited, so early booking is advised.

More information on all upcoming exhibitions and events can be found at www.museum.maidstone.gov.uk Bookings via 01622 602838.
