10 Maidstone Borough Council Council tax facts

Maidstone Borough Council is asking residents to pay an extra 1.99% or 9p a week for its services, such as planning, waste and recycling collections, and street cleaning, for the year April 2015 to March 2016.

The cost of the borough council’s services for the year will rise by £4.59 a year for a Band D taxpayer to £235.71.

Kent County Council has also increased its council tax by 1.99% and the cost of its services will rise from £1,068.66 to £1,089.99.

The Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority has increased its council tax by 1.99% and the cost of its services will rise from £69.30 to £70.65.

The bill for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent will rise by 1.99% from £144.28 to £147.15 or Band D taxpayers.

That means that the total bill for a band D taxpayer, excluding parish council precepts, will rise by 1.99% from £1,513.36 to £1,543.50.

Out of every council tax pound - 71p goes to Kent County Council, 15p goes to Maidstone Borough Council, 9p to Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, and 5p to Kent Fire and Rescue (excluding parish council precepts).

Parish precepts

Council Tax bills for most rural areas include an additional parish council precept. These range from £24 for Boughton Malherbe to £90.61 for Leeds.

Mote Park

We recently consulted residents about Mote Park. We explained that the council has to make savings of £3.4 million in the next 5 years, and with over £1 million of essential upgrades needed in the park by 2025, we need to either raise income or cut the parks maintenance budget. Over

Cobtree Manor Park

The new visitor centre at Cobtree Manor Park will be open next month . The centre will include a new café with indoor seating, and will be the starting point for a range of new walks and events to help visitors discover the best of the park.

When the visitor centre has opened, parking charges will be introduced at the park. This is because the charity that pays to maintain the park – the Cobtree Manor Estate Trust – is no longer making enough money from the other parts of the Estate to cover the cost of maintenance. Coupled with an increase in maintenance costs following a huge increase in visitors in recent years, the Trust agreed that it was necessary for the park to work towards becoming self-sufficient. Therefore, all money from parking charges and any profit from the café will go towards the ongoing maintenance of the park.

The cost will be £1.50 per day, or £40 for a season ticket.

reasons that Mote Park is so popular, so the adventure zone will take up less than 0.5% of the park.

We’re also looking at the other responses to the consultation, and will keep you updated with any further decisions.
