URGENT APPEAL www.dunblanelikhubulalink.org.uk

Likhubua Floods - Urgent Appeal

The Dunblane Likhubula Link (DLL) is in a race against time to raise several thousand pounds to help alleviate the starvation now facing their partnership community in Likhubula, Malawi, following a freak cyclone in January.

The area has suff ered particularly badly from the aftermath. Tremendous fl ooding washed away 80 per cent of the houses, the majority of roads and bridges – and destroyed all the crops which would normally be harvested in April. For the next 12 months starvation is the greatest threat.

Very many thanks to all of you who have responded so quickly and so generously to the appeal for our friends in Likhubula The fi rst delivery of food costing £3000 was made on the 9th April by Mary’s Meals. 130 of the poorest and most needy families benefi tted. By the time you have read this note a further drop off will have been made. The food parcel consists of 50kgs maize fl our, 10kgs peas, 10kgs Super Cereal (porridge fl our), 2 litres vegetable oil, is suffi cient to feed a household for a month. Realistically we think we need to make a further 2 deliveries making four in total. This will give the community time to get themselves back on their feet, repair the houses, plant and grow some food. To do this we would still need to raise a further £6000. A lot of money but to put it in context for the cost of two M&S meals you can feed a family for a month.

Please continue to support this appeal. Every little helps. £25 would provide for a household for a month. Gift Aiding helps immensely.
