of Texas. Learn more about rain gardens and water catchment systems from representatives from the San Antonio River Authority and SAWS on Saturday, May 16, at the Phil Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center, 8400 NW Military Hwy. Participants will learn how to create a rain


garden using rainfall catchment techniques and about bioswales, which are sloped drainage courses used to remove pollution from surface runoff water. Families are welcome, and a kid-friendly activity will be provided. The program is presented by the Alamo Area Texas Master Naturalists, the Sierra Club, Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy, and San Antonio Parks and Recreation.

Enjoy America’s Armed Forces River Parade on May 16

here are many reasons to spend an evening at the River Walk, but this is one of the best:


San Antonio’s 2015 Armed Forces River Parade on Saturday, May 16. One of the largest parades held on the river, this event is dedicated to the men and women of the armed forces—past, present and future. Participants will enjoy 26 patriotic floats representing all five branches of military personnel and spanning all levels of rank. The parade is televised live locally and syndicated in 26 markets throughout the U.S., including the Pentagon Channel. The 2015 Grand Marshalls are three Medal of Honor recipients: Gen. Patrick Brady, Sgt. Santiago Erevia and Sgt. Clarence Sasser.


The 2015 Armed Forces River Parade spans more than two miles of the River Walk, including the Arneson Theatre. The event begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.thesanantonioriverwalk.com.


Local Yoga Therapist Nydia Tijerina Darby Leads 5-Day Workshop at Omega

The creator of Nydia’s Yoga Therapy interweaves her extensive yoga background with her physical therapy knowledge to create intensely therapeutic and beneficial yoga experiences. Her focus on yoga therapy for breast cancer survivors stemmed from an invitation to participate in a research study at the UT Health Science Center. For the study she developed a yoga asana practice designed specifically for breast cancer survivors. Her unique background enabled her to combine Western physical therapy with Eastern hatha yoga, resulting in a practice that focuses on healing the whole person— body, mind and spirit. In July, Darby takes her

therapeutic yoga to the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, N.Y. She will lead a five-day workshop on Therapeutic Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors that begins July 19 and continues through July 24. During the workshop, participants will learn Darby’s breath-centered, modified yoga practice designed to increase mobility, strength and endurance and to improve function and quality of life, reduce stress and enhance focus and concentration. Practices during the workshop will be modified to fit each practitioner’s level of experience; participants do not need prior yoga experience.
