Selling homes in Maidstone since 1982 The hand car wash at the Rose pub in Ashford Road, Bearsted
Carwash ‘had no planning consent’
RESIDENTSin Bearstedwere sur- prised to see a planning applica- tion for a car wash that had been operating for almost two years. Maidstone Council sent out let-
ters to local people notifying them that Alfred Gashi had applied for a two-year temporary permission to run the hand car wash on the car park of the Rose pub, 87 Ashford Road. According to a planning document, the business had been operating there since March 2013. Neighbour Lucy O’Gorman said:
“This implies that they dug out, tarmacked and extended the car park and their external electricity supplies without the necessary permission and have been operat- ing ever since, breaching the cur- rent planning permission laws.”
She added that she had previ-
ously raised concerns that the fa- cility had caused extra traffic and anti-social displacement parking. Another neighbour, Gavin Pierce, complained about a large Christmas tree that had been sited on the pub car park for three months in the build-up to the past five Christmases, as well as stalls on the site selling fruit during the summer. He said displaced parking at the
pub had led to “an increase in noise and disturbance for residents as noisy and drunken people leav- ing the Rose get into the vehicles parked outside local private resi- dences.”
Maidstone Council will deter- mine the application.
A village full of talent JOHN
Snow White, Leeds Amateur Dramatic Society
THIS was panto fun from the opening chorus to the audience singing competition and the final walk down. How many village pantos can
find seven such convincing, ener- getic gnomeswhocan sing? How many villages can find wildly dancing skeletons who can leap out of their coffins in a dank dun- geon? Where did Leeds find such delightful little animals, who steered Sacha Graham’s Snow White to the gnomes’ cottage? Director Jane Steele had obvi-
ously conscripted all available tal- ent in the

brook created super costumes. Es- ther Goodhew was the leggy Prince Rupert. Mervyn Hughes was just right as kindly King Hec- tor. Carole Burtonwaswonderful as Queen Eldread. Dave Hoxey as Mrs Murgatroyd, was a really cheeky, sympathetic dame. Luke Graham bounced on and off as Wot and Danii Jennings told awful jokes as Lester the Jester. Jo Holbrook played the piano and the rest of a huge castwas terrific. Well done Leeds.
Dog training plan reconsidered
DOGSwill no longer be trained at a farm in South Green Lane, Stock- bury. In July 2013 Maidstone Council granted planning permission for a canine school in Hinecorn Farm but a newer supporting statement said: “The applicants have since recon-
sidered their business model due to the very expensive costs of flying a dog into and out of the UK. It has become far more cost effective to fly the handler out to the client.” The council has approved a new
plan to convert and extend a bunga- low to form a four-bedroom home.
