Tailwalkers stocked at Irvine Lake
By Steve Carson There’s happy news for trouters
at Irvine Lake. Starting Feb. 11 and continuing through April 17, about 12,000 pounds of the fa- mous Nebraska Tailwalkers will be introduced to the lake. The ma- jority of these beautiful rainbows will be in the two- to seven-pound class, with some 15-pounder tro- phy grades mixed in. Brown trout are still being
caught in outstanding numbers, and the biggest largemouth bass in the lake are starting to exhibit pre-spawn behavior due to the nice weather. The Pro Shop also reports good bites for rainbows. Good catches were checked
in from the west shore, mid-lake and Trout Island. Mid-length
bait leaders from 12-14 inches were best. Trollers did well with firetiger-color Rapala CD05s and pink tiger Shad Rap SR04s. Bass fishermen found good numbers of two- to four-pound largemouth on dropshot-rigged plastics and fished against the hard structure at 20-25 ft. near Red Clay Cliffs. Catfish anglers found their quarry settled back into deep water until the next big rainstorm. The Kids Lagoon was restocked the last week of January. Surface temperature of the wa-
ter is 54 degrees, with a limited underwater visibility. The lake level continues to rise slowly as the inlet pipe in Sierra Cove is on.
Outstanding catches include: Paul Campbell, Orange: 9-6
largemouth bass (released) on jig at the west shore Jerry Aguilar, Orange: 4-9 brown trout on nightcrawlers at the west shore Taylor Donahue (age 9), Or- ange: 3-4 brown trout on night- crawlers at the west shore Don Spencer, Slverado: 4-15 largemouth bass (released) on crankbait at the flats Todd Pierce, Orange: 4-9 brown trout on a Flickershad at mid-lake James Smelt, Orange: 4-1 brown trout on a Flickershad at mid-lake Samantha Hunter (age 7), Or- ange: 1-11 rainbow trout on PowerBait at the west shore James Getty, Silverado: 5-1 largemouth bass (released) on swimbait at Boat Dock cove.
