After getting one owl from kelowna, the owl theme sort of took off.
"It was handy having a layout to
follow," says Linda. The first year, they planted the bushes and trees and slowly started adding perennials. Time passed and their dazzling garden matured from sunny annuals to shade-loving perenni- als, as bushes grew and plants thrived. Thirteen years later Linda jokes there is not much space left to try out new specimens. A true plant lover, she looks forward to the perennial exchange and sales offered by the Strathcona Garden Club, of which she is a member. The neatly manicured lawns are dili-
gently maintained by Linda's husband. "John likes a green lawn, so he keeps the grass freshly watered and well- trimmed. But since he's not always sure what things are in the garden, he doesn't do much in terms of weeding," she says. Linda tends to most of the weeding
and planting herself, and what a grand job she has done. She has created the ultimate in beauty and balance. Hang- ing planters overflow, pillar geraniums grow to unimaginable heights in pots beside her deck and a kaleidoscope of bright colours abounds everywhere. The front yard, adorned with antique
looking planters, perfectly clipped bushes and an ever-changing arrange- ment of showy annuals, is sure to cause any passerby to stop for a second look.
