WELEADERS ARE
The world awaits: Ryan Douglas is an aspiring businessman who believes in giving back.
My wife, Lois, and I are both Penn State graduates. We recognize the importance for students to have mentors and learn to develop entrepreneurial, leadership and community service skills. Having lost my father at an early age, I recognize the value that sound guidance plays in an individual’s career and life experiences.
After entering the business world, I sought to emulate the qualities I admired in others and develop skills not learned in school. When I retired, we established an endowment to support the goals of ENACTUS, an international program that encourages students to develop these same interpersonal skills and community responsibilities.
As an avid photographer, I appreciate the importance for students to become well-rounded individuals, capable of sharing interests with other successful people as they advance in their careers. We are funding a program to encourage “Technology in Art,” which is designed to explore the burgeoning use of technology in the production and creation of art. Penn State is pursuing these programs with vigor and enthusiasm.

I love competition and I love business so was excited to find out about ENACTUS. It’s an international organization for college students to compete within business, apply entrepreneurial skills toward the real world and improve someone’s quality of life.
Each student-run project is evaluated based on jobs created, profit earned, scalability, sustainability and social impact. We come up with ideas, do research and feasibility studies, go through all steps of project management, meet with city and corporate partners and manage budgets. I’m gaining marketable work experience that puts me ahead of the curve.
The Singers’ endowment provides the funds needed to run our program and make a difference through enpretreneurial action.
