Clitheroe is a market town covering a very wide, diverse area including urban, semi rural and rural. Large parts of the Ribble Valley are within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The area’s main employers
are BAE and the local cement works. However, many people within the Ribble Valley work outside of the area in places such as Manchester, Bolton, Preston and over towards Leeds. The high quality of secondary

schooling continues to be an essential reason why people fl ock to the Ribble Valley. It tends to outperform its neighbouring East Lancashire towns in terms of average price and even in these hard economic times, the market “ticks over”. More people seem to accept
that prices have fallen from the heady heights of 2007 and this probably accounts for the increasing number of sales; we have also recorded four fi rst time buyer sales this year which
equals the total for 2011! We have agreed 17 sales and 9 tenancies this month. People favour the Ribble Valley
for its high standard of living, low crime, accessibility and the fact that it is still cheaper than prime Cheshire. In addition to advertising on
major portals, Clitheroe agents established their own local area portal,
ribblevalleyproperty.com which many house-hunters favour due to its simplicity and exclusivity to the area.
