As one of my final duties as your chairman for the past two years (notwithstanding this final letter) I recently had the pleasure of “passing the gavel” on to my successor Chris Klotz. As I wished him and the rest of the Executive Committee well, I couldn’t help but recall my “first” board meeting where I was accepted as an incoming member of the Committee. It was with a great deal of excitement and a little trepidation knowing that I had committed to a number of long drives over the past few years to attend board meetings, other Association functions, which included days away from work and my family, to in my own words, give something back to an industry and Association that has given me and my family so much for so many years. I have been very fortunate to have a boss, coworkers and family that have been so very supportive. I am very thankful for all that they have done to make my time on the board such a great experience.
It is with all this, that I have to admit that the time has gone fast and it has been very rewarding! With this in mind, I would like to encourage anyone that might be thinking of serving as a leader in your community, church, social circles or any of the committees within our Association to take the leap and do it. Without a doubt, there are many organizations that are in need of leadership today, all it takes is to put up your hand and accept the challenge.

I’m confident that if you approach your service with an open mind, an ability to work as a team and to do what is best for the greater good of the organization you will find your time is well spent. If you judge your experience by not what you “got” from the opportunity, but by what you had to “give”, you’ll have as many fond memories as I have for my years of service. Tank you again for the opportunities and wonderful memories.
