Bill Hughes, MD of Legal & General Property, has been appointed
Chairman of the Green Property
Alliance, an umbrella organisation that provides the voice for a collection of property member organisations, collaborating to achieve a more sustainable built environment. The Green Property Alliance is
an offshoot of the Property Industry Alliance and comprises the Better Buildings Partnership, British Council for Offices, British Council of Shopping Centres, British Property Federation, British Retail Consortium, CoreNet, Investment Property Forum, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and UK Green Building Council. Over the last year, the Green
Property Alliance has produced guidance for landlords and tenants on their responsibilities under the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme. It has also sought to establish consensus on a series of common metrics to measure the sustainability performance of rented buildings, set down in a paper ‘Setting the Ground Rules, Establishing Common Sustainability Metrics for Property’. Bill Hughes takes over the Chairmanship from Martin Moore (PRUPIM). Bill said, “I am delighted to have been invited to Chair the Green Property Alliance. I plan to continue the sterling work of my predecessor in the role, Martin Moore, in addressing the barriers to a sustainable built environment, and in clearly articulating to Government what would help to motivate owners, investors, occupiers and agents to act more sustainably. “Since the sustainability agenda
has become increasingly important in recent years, it has become even more critical that the property industry exerts influence upon how regulation and legislation evolves. I very much look forward to stepping up to this challenge.”

ProPerty searCh veteran returns to the foLD After a hiatus of three years, Mike Richards, founder of Richards Gray, has returned to the property
search industry. He has joined former members of the Richards
Gray team as Chairman of their new venture, Conveyancing Data Services (CDS), a bespoke property search company delivering conveyancing information to the legal property profession. This heralds a new era for the property search industry, and CDS has gone back to basics, putting conveyancers at the heart of the business. “Joining CDS has provided me with the perfect opportunity to step back into the property search industry, bringing all the knowledge I have amassed over the last 22 years.
