where it had been since the 70s.We ‘roadies’ only had occasional forays on to the track in those days and I only made the spiders homeless because I had the opportunity to ride the Olympic track a couple of months ago.” Geoff was up against riders from the USA,
Italy, France, Venezuela, Denmark and Trinidad in the final of the scratch race for those aged 70-74 and, despite the more track-experienced opposi- tion, he won the bronze medal behind Geoff

Asbestos on homes site
A DEVELOPER has confirmed that white and brown asbestos has been found in an old NHS building in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone. Demolition work on the site of the former nurses’ home in Hermitage
Lane began in September, 10 months after planning permission was granted to replace the neo-Georgian building with 53 homes. The work will now include provision for the removal of the potentially dangerous insulating material by a specialist firm. A spokesman for the developer, Bellway Homes, said: “All affected areas will be completely re- moved from each individual building prior to its demolition.”
