The big news is thatRennieHarris recently came toHouston toworkwith the company for a perform- ance later this season. “I’ve been a fan of FLYDanceCompany for over 10 years,” saysHarris. “They understand the true essence of Hip-hopDance Theater. Dance SourceHoustonOffersResidencies andMiniGrants In addition to theBarnstormDance Fest,DSHhas also launched a newartist-in-residence programgeared toward emerging dance artists,whichwill help guide themthrough the process of self-pro- duction, and newtechnical/productionmini-grants, designed to provide individual dance artists and dance organizationswith funds in small amounts to help offset the cost of self producing.Dance SourceHouston’s executive director StephanieWong continues to make nationalwaves as a leader in the dance service industry. She has been recently appointedCouncilChair for the Service OrganizationsCouncil forDance/USA,which also gives her a seat on the board. “We’re so excited, nowthat the dust has settled from our taking overmanagement of TheBarn, to be able to leverage the space and provide programming that our community so desperate- ly needs,” saysWong. “We can’twait to see howthe artists in our communitymake use of these newopportunities.”


SpareWorksDance FiresUp inSanAntonio AmberOrtega-Perez, artistic director of SpareWorksDance, has received a grant fromtheArtist Foundation in SanAntonio to cre- ate a performance event that incorporates video projection.Ortega- Perezwill be collaboratingwith filmmakerErikBosse to create a newwork called Taken InArms. “I amexperimentingwithwhat I callmodular choreography, a dance that ismade up of several parts that can be strung together,mixed around, eliminated, and repeat- ed.We have had the opportunity to showthiswork on five differ-
