1916 Rebellion School Tour
Their expert guides offer a great variety of tours with strong history curriculum links. For language classes tours can be given in Irish, French and Spanish (advance notice required).
Re-enactments are available on request which will bring the experiences of key figures such as James Larkin, Patrick Pearse and Elizabeth O’Farrell to life for students. Their Schools Packs offer a range of resources which can be used in the classroom before or after your visit.
They also provide guidance and inspiration for Leaving Cert history students completing
their Research Projects and offer a special practical course in Tour Guiding for Transition Year students. Your trip to Glasnevin Cemetery and Museum will be a fascinating and memorable experience which will capture the imagination of the class and promote further learning long after your visit has ended.

Cost is €6 per pupil , including a tour and visit to the museum, complimentary admission for one leader per every ten visiting students.
The 1916 Tour was founded in 1996 by Lorcan Collins with the aim of showing participants the sites of the Easter Rising and explaining, in a concise and accessible fashion, the various events that shaped the Irish Nation. The tour includes Trinity College / Old Irish Parliament, the Customs House, Liberty Hall, the GPO, the Four Courts, City Hall and Dublin Castle. Collins is author of two books – The Easter Rising (O’Brien Press, co-author Conor Kostick) and James Connolly (O’Brien Press), part of the 16 Lives series (
www.16lives.com). Collins has taken hundreds of school groups on the tour and also runs daily walking tours for adults (
www.1916rising.com). He also lectures extensively in the US and last year was invited to Sydney, Australia, to give a talk on Irish history.

Shackleton Endurance Exhibition
Relive the true life story at the Shackleton Endurance Exhibition in Dún Laoghaire.
Aiming to complete the first sea-to-sea land crossing of Antarctica by foot via the South Pole, Ernest Shackleton and his team of 27 scientists and seamen set sail from Plymouth aboard their ship, Endurance, just after the outbreak of World War. IThey wouldn’t be heard from for nearly two years.

Lorcan Collins founded the 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour in 1996. For the past 18 years he has conducted thousands ot tours around Dublin City and the sites of the revolutionary period. He co-authored The Easter Rising (O’Brien Press) with Conor Kostick. He is Series Co-Editor of 16 Lives, a collection of sixteen books on the executed leaders of the Rising (
www.16lives.com). His biography of James Connolly (O’Brien Press) was published in 2012 as part of 16 Lives. He has lectured extensively in the U.S. and is a regular contributor to historical journals.
