Install Awnings to Have it Made in the Shade
How to have the versatility of choosing either sun or shade.
O
ne of the constant challenges every designer, architect and homeowner faces is expanding the living space within the confines of the
home’s exterior walls. But, to an increasing extent, creative people are finding ways to bring the outside indoors. Traditionally, this objective has been met by building a deck or patio. But this poses another chal- lenge: how to avoid the discomfort that sun and rain can cause. A permanent, conventionally built roof offers protection from the sun and rain but also pre- vents desirable sun exposure. On those spring and fall days when we want to sit in the sun, it would be great to be able to be able to retract the roof and have the versatility of choosing either sun or shade.
Retractable Awnings Welcome to the world of retractable awnings. Tey offer direct exposure to the sun and provide shade when you want it at the push of a buton.
Retractable awnings come in hundreds of colors, can be motorized or manually operated and can be custom sized for any deck or patio.
Automation Te risk of damage from wind and rain has been significantly reduced with the introduction of sun and wind sensors. Te wind sensor will trigger a mechanism to close the awning if the wind’s velocity can damage the awning. A sun sensor will signal the awning to open if the sun is out, automatically casting shade inside the house to help keep it cool without any intervention from you.
What’s New Tere is one downside to a typical retractable awning: It can’t be leſt out in strong wind or rain. One company that has met this challenge head on is Corradi, an Italian company that has opened up a U.S. distribution center. Awnings have been being used in Europe for centuries so, companies there they have prety much perfected them. Corradi makes both atached and freestanding awnings. And Corradi’s Pergotenda system is a fixed-frame, retractable awning that can be used in heavy rains and winds of up to 45 miles per hour. Te company makes several frame types to match the architectural design of your building. And the Exyl model is a free- standing unit that doesn’t need to be atached to a building. It can be installed in the middle of the yard, at poolside or anywhere you want shade.
