The Ridings’ Federation
leads students to success The Ridings’ Federation of Academies supports the learning and development of over 2,700 students in Bristol and South Gloucestershire through Woodlands Nursery, Woodlands Primary Phase, Yate International Academy, Winterbourne International Academy and their Sixth Form which delivers both academic and vocational subjects.
The Federation was established in 2009 with the core purpose of raising and sustaining educational standards in South Gloucestershire. Since then £35 million has been invested in new facilities which will ensure the students benefit from the latest state-of-the-art educational resources available.
The local community can also take advantage of these facilities thanks to Ridings’ Commerce Ltd who run leisure and learning programmes throughout the year, as well as hiring out the facilities to clubs and businesses.
The Winterbourne Swim Academy alone receives over 500 young swimmers every week and their extensive adult learning programme provides adults with the opportunity to attend a broad range of classes including Cookery, Photography, Textiles and Languages. Recently Ridings’ Commerce also introduced a new Fitness and Dance programme with their own instructors providing fun ways to get fit and stay healthy.
The Academies have featured heavily in the local press recently thanks to the success of existing students and an impressive alumni including Costa Book of the Year winner Nathan Filer, footballers Cole Skuse and Gary Mabbutt, Levanna Mclean (YouTube dance sensation), Shanie-Redd Thorne (Gold Winning Gymnast), Jenny Jones (Winter Olympic Bronze) and Charlie Lenehan (Bars and Melody, Britain’s Got Talent finalist).
