Urgent Care Centre in South Bristol Y

ou can bring your child to our Urgent Care Centre if you believe your child to be unwell.

We operate a triage system where your child’s temperature, pulse and respiratory rate will be recorded and monitored. If the triage nurse thinks your child needs further care or treatment (and in most cases they do), he/she will refer your child for full assessment and examination with an experienced nurse practitioner.

If your child has a fever there are things you can do at home to reduce a fever as follows:

• Give your child paracetamol (this will not affect our judgement when during triage)

• Offer clear fluids in small amounts but at frequent intervals

• Keep your child cool by dressing them in a cotton vest or t-shirt

Do not forget to make a list of any medication your child may take prescribed from a doctor

and let the triage nurse know if your child has any past medical history, this is vitally important.

During the summer months we see many children with hayfever symptoms, if you cannot manage the symptoms at home remember to call your GP or come along to the Urgent Care Centre.

Please be prepared to wait in our seated area for children and it is a good idea to bring their favourite toys and snacks. We will endeavour to ensure all your child’s needs are met, if you have any concerns please speak to our reception staff who are able to relay any information to us.
