Lukaszewski on Crisis Communication: What Your CEO Needs to Know About Reputation Risk and Crisis Management (c2013) Author: James E. Lukaszewski

Book Review written by: Werner Preining, CPP

This book brings a new and positive ―momentum‖ to crisis communication. It puts away with some older beliefs and teaching. The concept, guidance, tools and different solutions presented in Lukaszewski on Crisis Communication are the result of the authors about 40 years experience in the field of crisis communication.

The book takes into consideration the very rapid changes we are living with today and advises readers on how to cope with them.

The author provides the framework for building an effective crisis management program. He provides tools and guidance on how to identify existing vulnerabilities and potential risks.

Using his extensive expertise the author offers valuable insight on how to speak to a CEO about a crisis to get his or her immediate attention. He even provides a specific blue-print of key-words to use.

A very important strategy in the authors outline is an immediate victim recognition and victim handling policy. Such a strategy reduces litigation considerably and is a cost-safer.

Throughout the chapters of the book there are case studies, a selection of approaches, negatives and positives, rights and wrongs, in short a wealth of practical and no-nonsense information.

The entire book is written in a clear and plain language, very direct and therefore easy to understand. The book is a must read for those involved in crisis management, as well as every serious security practitioner and human resources professional.
