Industry Update the user adoption curve

User adoption is a 5-stage process, says Pip Thomas of N-vest.

I’m on a crusade to get the channel to focus on user adoption (in case you hadn’t noticed) a subject about which I am very passionate.

Why? Well put simply, ‘user adoption’ is about getting your customers to use the technology you sell them, so they get the best value from it.

It doesn’t happen by accident. It’s an on-going process.

And user attitude is as important as the level of understanding at each of the fi ve stages of user adoption, which are:

Discover

Employees become aware new technology is coming, or has arrived, and begin to form an opinion about whether they are pro, anti or neutral.

Learn

Employees start to learn how the technology works and what it can do through hands-on use, training and opinion from co-workers and key infl uencers.

Test

Users experiment with the new kit to see how it fi ts in with their needs – also known as the WIFM (‘What’s In It For Me) factor.

i p T Apply

A period of active use of the new kit when employees really fi nd out how useful it is to them and their job, and decide whether they like using it.

Adopt

User buy-in has been achieved. The employee views it as indispensable to their job.

Commenting,

Paul Mullen,

Sales Director, Anders Elec- tronics plc, said, “The Rasp- berry Pi has a hugely powerful graphics processor on board, which is fully capable of

matching a high end dual or quad core x86 PC in terms of quality of graphics and video output. Recognising this, we have partnered with Silver Curve and created a graphics engine that harnesses the full power of this processor to dis- play complex digital signage content quickly and smoothly. Features like multiple zones, multiple layers, smooth ani- mation and cinematic effects such as depth of field are all integral to the player.
