LIFE HAS GONE TO THE DOGS… FOR THE MOST PART, WHAT A PERFECTLY
HAPPY PLACE THAT IS TO BE.
August is our annual pet issue and I am reminded, of how integral a part our furry little (or not so little) friends play for most of us. Companionship is just the beginning for most. The photo shoot for August was a fun one, though I understand now, why most photogra- phers shy away from working with animals. Getting a 150-pound Great Dane, to look directly into the camera, is like asking an out-of-water fish not to squirm. Though it all ended well, I think, with Brooklyn, Ruby and Michiko coming off beautifully. It’s usually a fun issue to put together, with so many angles to take when considering content.
I found an amazing veterinarian in Los Angeles, Dr. Patrick Mahaney who filled us in with some great information on keeping your animals safe this summer (Pages 42 to 45). I came across a sobering fact when researching vets and the animals that they care for. It involves the horrifying (and I mean H-O-R-R-I-F-Y-I-N-G) number of animals that are euthanized each year. It makes me ill to think of it. So, in keeping with that seriously-staggering number, PLEASE, spay and neuter your animals. They deserve better treatment then we offer them. Off the soapbox I come. The entertainment section of the issue is filled with great stories from Vanessa Williams and her many musical endeavors, Alfred Molina, who talked with us about the film, Love is Strange and Matt DeAngelis of the musical, Once. We were lucky enough to also chat with Stuart Milk, Harvey’s nephew, about the global initiatives he has so enthusiastically begun regarding LGBT equality. We could all learn from his passionate undertakings. Each August submission is a great read and filled with topical observations on many subjects.
Please enjoy each individual ride they offer. And, the dogs in the pet spread are really cute…

DICK REGNIER, REST IN PEACE DEAR FRIEND. “I’ve heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true But I know I’m who I am today Because I knew you...” —Wicked, “For Good”
