What are the benefits of baby signing?

igning babies are happy babies! Baby signing allows your baby to express themselves, long before they can talk. From as early as 6 to 9 months old (sometimes even earlier), babies can begin to tell you what they want, what they are thinking about and how they feel.


No longer do you have to ‘guess’ the cry! (Tired? Hungry? Hot? Cold? Damp nappy? Aargh!) Signing babies can also tell you so much more than just these basic needs. For example, they can tell you that they have seen a ‘duck’ in the park or that they are excited that it is ‘bath’ time!


Classes are taught by Lisa Mathias, previously a school teacher. Having seen the benefits with her first child she started teaching baby signing classes in Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield. She says “It’s so exciting when a baby makes their first sign and just as amazing seeing them grow into confident and chatty toddlers”.


You can join Lisa’s classes at any point in the term and babies are welcomed right from birth. Babies need plenty of time to understand what language and signing are all about before they make their first sign. Toddler classes develop communication further from around 18 months old. Lisa can also train your child’s nursery!
