Its Third New Model in As Many Years. Hinckley launched its new Talaria 43 in Southwest Harbor on June 10th
making it
offi cially the company’s third new model in as many years.
The travel lift lowered the 43 foot moto- ryacht into Somes Sound, a pair of Cummins 550hp diesels started up, the buckets of her twin jets lifted and she was off the dock and underway as a sporty, open-air express. The glass windows and sliding door that had formed the secure aft enclosure of the motoryacht’s salon were gone, electrically retracted into the port and starboard cabine- try. In their place was nothing but a view of the rapidly disappearing boatyard and a sin- gle-level expanse of living and entertaining space stretching from the helm to the tran- som. The climate controlled comforts of a motoryacht or the exhilaration of an express is no longer a choice that Hinckley owners will have to make. The new Talaria 43 offers both with push-button convenience. “You see people out cruising with their canvas still in place because it’s a bit of a hassle to remove it. With this system, you can go from buttoned-up to wide-open in literally just a moment,” said Hinckley COO Mike Arieta. The patent-pending system was manufactured in Detroit. The Talaria 43 is a 34 knot boat wide open with a cruising speed of 29 knots deliv- ered by twin Cummins QSB 550s and a pair

of Hamilton waterjets. Waterjet propulsion is currently the standard at The Hinckley Company and has been since it introduced the system on its fi rst Picnic Boat in 1994. The Talaria 43 may optionally be ordered with Volvo’s IPS 600. This is the fi rst model Hinckley has offered from inception with pod drives as an option.
Jets keep the draft on the new Talaria 43 down to a scant 28 inches and provide the boat with easy and precise maneuver- ability in close quarters handling. Control is provided by Hinckley’s latest generation of Jetstick, which serves to enhance the driving experience by governing the power with smooth proportional control. Jetstick II adds virtual anchoring and heading hold to the list of benefi ts delivered by the orig- inal system. Hinckley offers Volvo IPS at a $130,000 credit and the system is expected to deliver comparable speed. Of the dozen Talaria 43s on order now, the majority will carry the jets. The Talaria 43 comes with another helm accessory to keep operations easy—a hand- held remote control called PalmStick. When picking your way up a tricky channel, or when backing into a narrow slip, the Talaria 43 offers you the option of steering the boat from where the visibility is best, even if that place is several feet away from the helm.
