PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE

Nebraska Trucking Executive Committee DEAR LOYAL AND (VERY) PATIENT NEBRASKA TRUCKERFANS,

Happy New Year! It’s been awhile since our last edition and I’ve got a lot of exciting things to share in 400 words or less! First, I want to say thanks to all our readers for bearing with me, while we’ve continued to “tweak” our Nebraska Trucker publication’s content and schedule. As a reminder, in order to maintain the most competitive and affordable dues structure, the Nebraska Trucker was designed to be a self-supporting entity, based on advertising sales to our allied members. Over the years, with the changes in technology and people’s buying patterns, every printed publication across the world has been challenged to make changes to adapt to the realities of our new electronic world. Tere are now far more choices for advertisers to try and tell “their” story to you as consumers.

As we’ve tried to make the changes, you’ve noticed the frequency go down, as well as the news content we are able to support based on the number and sizes of ads sold. However to offset those changes, our publisher has invested heavily upfront by giving it a bold new look and increasing our subscribers by over six-fold. We are continuing to try to develop local and relevant content within the space that is sold. I appreciate the input you have given some members of our Executive Committee, staff members and myself, many times just saying how much you missed and appreciated seeing it every month. Some of you have asked “if ” there is anything you can do to help. My best answer is this. As an allied member, if you are currently placing ads, thank you for your support and patience as changes are made. We will strive to continue to be the best place for you to get your message out to over 6,600 truckers and elected officials across the country. Your support DOES make a difference and I’m glad that we’ve been able to count on you. For those that might be considering placing an ad(s), feel free to contact me and I’ll get you to the correct person at Matthews Publishing to help you develop a campaign. All things being equal, we’re the only truck related publication focused on Nebraska truckers out there and we’ll provide a great return on your advertising dollars. If you’re a trucker, remember to support those allied members that support you. Once again, all things being equal, you might as well buy from a supporter of your favorite publication, the Nebraska Trucker! Remember to call and thank them for their support and that you saw their ad. I’m confident that they will appreciate the call.

Finally, I would like to close with a quick introduction of our newest staff member. With the Executive Committee’s approval we have not filled the Vice President of Member Services position held by Nance Harris for so long. Instead, we have created the position of Vice President of Operations, Marketing and Communications and it has been filled by Patty Wood. Patty brings a wealth of experience and energy to our new position and I hope you will join me in welcoming her. I know she is anxious to meet you and carrying out our mission of Advocacy, Information and Services to you, our members.

Here’s wishing you a happy and prosperous new year!
