PAT BABCOCK
PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AWARD Patricia Babcock, Grand Island, has been a
safety supervisor at Chief Carriers for 16 years. She was nominated by her supervisor, Jeff Marsh, who is the company safety manager. Jeff says Pat has been a huge asset to him as he transitioned into the role of safety manager. She managed the entire safety department for six months while the search was on for a new manager. In fact, she was offered the promotion, but declined. Having the best interests of the company at heart, she felt that she should decline because she will retire in the not too distant future. Pat handles new hire orientation, driver qualification files, licensing and permitting, taxes, driver audits and driver training, and manages the safety office operations. She has organized the company’s annual safety banquet for the past 15 years. She recently accepted additional
responsibility for human resources. Pat has also been heavily involved with the Nebraska Trucking Association, serving on the Truck Driving Championships Steering Committee.
DENNIS TERRY, JR.
DISPATCHER OF THE YEAR Dennis Terry, Jr. is the head dispatcher and
operations manager for Midwest Express, Inc. in Grand Island. He dispatches 40 drivers with a driver turnover rate of less than 14 percent. His drivers’ accident frequency rate is at point- two-five (.25) with virtually no late deliveries. Craig Dixon, owner of Midwest Express,
Inc., nominated Terry and said, “Dennis stays through thick and thin with all of his drivers. He puts a strong emphasis on customer service and wants to succeed with a 100 percent on-time record.” Dixon added, “However, he never forgets that a great dad, husband and individual person is sitting behind the wheel of the truck.” Terry has 26 years experience in the
industry, and he’s in charge of keeping 35 OTR trucks, six locals, and 110 reefers on the move. He also noted as a good teacher to his
fellow dispatchers, and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure their success as well. Dixon also noted that, “Dennis is a long term and loyal employee of over 10 years at Midwest Express, Inc….(he) is a great team member and we are fortunate to have him on our team at Midwest Express, Inc.”
