ager. It’s time to become a housewife, learn to cook and take care of the kids. Or else, we’ll have to drop you at the old queen’s farm! Daisy: If you think the fun ends after
Pride, then you’re not my kind of hero. Comic-Con is happening at the San Diego Convention Center from Thurs- day, July 24 through Sunday, July 27 and has plenty of geeky, sexy guys for me to enjoy. Tickets might be hard to come by, but if you head downtown around the convention center, there is still plenty of fun to be had. The event has expanded and plenty of the ex- hibits and promotions are happening outside of the convention center. For all the information you’ll need for the weekend go to
comic-con.org. Jessica: I just go for the Hello Kitty
TIME TO BRING OUT THE COLORS, THE PRIDE, AND THE EXCITEMENT TO CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY.
June has come and gone but not has come and gone but not
without leaving some lasting memo- ries behind for us to reminisce about. With so much to cover for July,
we have to leave June behind and get started. You know of course, this month is all about San Diego Pride! To kick off Pride weekend, Friday,
July 18 is booked with events... and if you’re like us, you will make it to every single one of them. First off, there’s Summer SPLASH ‘14 / Pre-Pride Pool Party. Get wet ‘n’ wild as you dance and drink the afternoon away poolside at The Lafayette hotel with DJ John Joseph. Purchase tickets at Obelisk or

Multicultural LGBT Literary Founda- tion is presenting the first literary fair Expressions of Pride from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Diversionary Theatre Complex. The exhibit features adult and chil- dren’s books from around the world, including art. For more information go to

78 RAGE monthly | JULY 2014 After “literally” kicking off Pride
weekend, head over to the official Pride flag raising during the Spirit of Stonewall Rally later that day at the corner of University and Normal Streets. Appearing there is transgen- der activist and actress Laverne Cox who will be delivering the keynote address. Jessica: Wait, what’s a book? Is that
like an old fashion iPod or something? Just joking! Come on now, I’m an educated career girl and you know I’ll be picking up some books. Friday evening, it’s time to head over
to LAUNCH, the Rob Benzon Founda- tion’s 15th annual Pride fundraiser at the historical Burnham house in the heart of Hillcrest. Daisy: I love this event. It’s so fun to
kick off Pride, mingling and enjoying the hosted bar, chef’s tables and sexy men, all for a great cause. The event sells out each year, so get your tickets today at
robbenzon.org. Then, there are the next two days,
filled with music, fun and our commu- nities coming together to celebrate, with a healthy reminder about the need to get involved in the struggles our community still faces. Highlights during the weekend’s
festival include, Miss Deborah Cox, Alex Newell (from Glee), Taryn Man- ning and so much more. And girls, please don’t forget your sunscreen. Jessica: The parade starts on
Saturday at 11 a.m., so don’t go gettin’ all drunk-face on Friday night, ‘cuz you will need to be up early for a good seat to enjoy the parade. Besides, it’s a rookie mistake to look drunk and hungover on Pride weekend. Daisy: I want to see everyone at
our sister Barbarah’s Birthday Show at #1 Fifth Avenue Thursday, July 24. We have a great show prepared to celebrate her Quinceanera and to welcome her into her 30’s, old age by gay standards. Jessica: It’s official sister, you can’t go out anymore and act like a teen-
merchandise, but by no means am I like you Daisy…seriously girl, grow up! You’re a mature woman who needs to start acting her age! Just kidding. Live how you want, no matter how many people laugh at your silly animal- eared hats. Lastly, but definitely not least, a big
Happy Birthday to our besty, Luigi Vera! We expect to see you at his Char- ity Pool Party on Saturday, July 26. His new house is fabulous... it’s the amazing backdrop for July’s fashion spread. Check out his facebook for more info
facebook.com/luigi.vera Okay kids, remember these Pride
recommendations: Everything in moderation! Don’t drink and drive, (that’s why God invented Uber), you don’t want a DUI or a tragedy over Pride, and for heaven’s sake, keep an eye on each other when you’re out. One final request: In addition to the fun and excitement, please check out some of the informative booths during the festival and get some information on how to become involved in our community. Do something to make a difference. Equality has come so far, but there is still more to do. Get involved, so the celebration never has to end.
HAPPY PRIDE! XOXO
