WOMEN’S KAYAK GROUP TACKLES PRISTINEWATERS OF THE OZARKS

kayak through a section of rapids on the Buffalo River, she triumphantly raises a paddle over her head. “WHO, WHO, WHO,” she chants. Ten other women, also in kayaks, cheer


her on, celebrating their friend’s success. “Way to go Tricia,” they yell, almost in


unison. The display is a prime example of the


group’s unspoken rule—WHOYakers stick together. WHOYakers is a group of women,


spawned from the Women Hiking the Ozarks (WHO) organization in the Moun- tain Home area, who kayak at lakes and rivers all over the Ozarks. They range in ages from 53 to 83. More than 50 women are a part of the group, and most are
