News Five-year term for child abuser

A MAN who travelled from Sus- sex to Maidstone to commit sexual offences against children has begun a five-year prison sentence. Wayne Booker (53), from Lanc-

ing, travelled to Maidstone in De- cember to meet two children aged 7 and 11 years old with the intention of committing sexual offences. He had made the arrangement

online while exchanging indecent images of children with an adult. The images ranged from levels one to five. However, Bookerwas met by de- tectives from the Kent Police child

exploitation investigation teamwho had been investigating him and were aware of the arrange- ment.

Booker was charged with two counts of arranging the commission of a child sex of- fence, seven

counts of distributing indecent im- ages and one count of arranging child pornography. He was re- manded in custody having pleaded

guilty to all the offences. Further offences were uncovered

while Booker was on remand. He was eventually charged, and admit- ted a total of 24 offences. He was sentenced by Maidstone Crown Court to five years in prison for arranging the commission of a child sex offence, with an extended licence period of four years. He also received sentences of two

and a half years for distributing in- decent images of children and 18 months for possessing and making indecent images, which both will run concurrently with his five-year

prison term. The judge also granted a sexual offences prevention order and banned Booker from working with children. Detective Sergeant David Shipley

said: “I am delighted that someone whowas so determined to sexually abuse very young children has been prevented from doing so and brought to justice. “From the items Booker had in

his possession when he was ar- rested it was apparent that he had every intention of committing sex- ual offences against children.“
