ON THE COVER: The Left Coast Lifter,
aff ectionately dubbed ‘I Lift New York,’ is one of the world’s largest cranes and is seen here as it approaches the New York Harbor. The massive crane traveled 6,000 miles from California through the Panama Canal to New York to help build the new TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE. The powerful fl oating crane can lift up to 1,750 tons, and is expected to shorten construction time, and cut costs in the overall project.
