[EDITOR’S NOTE]
Having a sound organizational structure in place is something we typically take for granted yet makes us strong and valuable. A business structure depends on the people, the products and the processes all focused on a shared plan. It is only when things don’t go according to plan, when a system is challenged, that we notice, and true mettle is tested. T ree characters that know this concept well were the three little pigs. I’m sure you know the story, two of the three pigs cut corners
when creating their structure (probably avoided some OSHA specs, building materials not up to par, most likely some of the contractors were under-qualifi ed…) while the third little pig invested in a plan that called for quality products, followed guidance and most likely had a loyal team of builders supporting the job. Well, you also probably know the end of the story, the fi rst two had an unfortunate disaster affl ict their buildings; all was lost. However, the third, also encountering the same disaster, his building withstood adversity and remained strong. Obviously, the third came out on top. Luckily, for most of us, there is no big bad wolf threatening to blow down our house, but occasionally we face challenges that test our best laid plans. So was the case for Kennedy Wire Rope and Sling when their corporate headquarters burned to the ground, losing all of their inventory and equipment in just a few short hours. With a strong team and business structure, they were able to get back to work right away, setting up in temporary mobile units to keep their focus on their goal, and service each customer order by order. T e moral of the story is that a solid organizational structure not only keeps the bigger
picture in sight and doesn’t let distractions overwhelm, it can also serve as a safety net when things get way off track. T is issue highlights Cirrus Aircraft, where we feature a product innovation that is literally saving lives. By incorporating a parachute system into an entire airplane as the ultimate ‘just in case’ option, Cirrus Aircraft is revolutionizing an entire industry. Finally, I recently attended the Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals (ACRP) meeting in Nashville, TN where over 100 professionals came together to not only share their expertise but to also learn from technical training sessions. T rough meetings such as these, we have an excellent opportunity to learn from our past, adapt to the inevitable changes in the now, and fi ne tune for the future. T is issue embraces the signifi cance and importance of having a process for a strong business plan. Enjoy these articles and our other industry profi les, and thank you for making the Wire Rope Exchange part of your company’s system!

WITH MEMORIAL DAY RECENTLY PAST, I’d like to give a ‘shout out’ to my grandfather, Rudolph ‘Michael’ Freeland, who served with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He originally crossed the channel with a hospital train assigned to Patton’s Third Army in their sweep across France. He joined the 82nd as a member of the 307th Airborne Medical Company in November, 1944 and served as a medic during the Bulge.
This past May, we celebrated his 90th birthday and we couldn’t be more proud of him and ALL of our Service Members, past and present.
