CALEA CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS


MARCH 20–23, 2013 CHARLESTON AREA, SOUTH CAROLINA


The Spring CALEA Conference was celebrated as the 100th CALEA Conference; 118 agencies were presented for Commission review; the Egon Bittner Award was presented to Chief Gerald L. Brooks, Greenwood, South Carolina Police Department; Sheriff Edward V. Rochford, Morris County, New Jersey Sheriff’s Office; Chief James D. Hill, Salina, Kansas Police Department, and retired Chief Harry W. Rilling, of the Norwalk, Connecticut Police Department, who was not in attendance; and the CALEA TRI-ARC Award was earned by the Newport News, Virginia Police Department and the Shelby County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office.


JULY 31–AUGUST 3, 2013 COLUMBUS, OHIO


The Summer CALEA Conference saw 68 agencies presented for Commission review and the CALEA TRI-ARC Award was presented to the St. Louis, Missouri Metropolitan Police Department and the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado de Baja California, Mexico. This marks the first time the TRI-ARC has been awarded to an organization outside the United States.


NOVEMBER 13–16, 2013 WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA


The Fall CALEA Conference featured a reception for invited guests to recognize retiring CALEA Executive Director Sylvester Daughtry, Jr. for his many years of service; also recognized at the conference were retiring CALEA Chair Louis M. Dekmar and Commissioners Debra M. Baker and Barton R. Voigt. Addition- ally, 127 agencies were presented for Commission review; the Egon Bittner Award was presented to Sheriff J. Wayne Anderson, Sullivan County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff John E. Zaruba, DuPage County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office.
