FORWARD

FROM THE CHAIRPERSON/PRESIDENT

From my position as the newly elected CALEA Chairperson/President, I am pleased to confidently report on the “State of CALEA.” As an organization, we are financially healthy, as our auditor’s report reflects. We are structurally sound and in good hands under the guidance of Executive Director W. Craig Hartley, Jr. And, as an eight-year veteran member, I can also report that the entire Board of Commissioners is committed to our corporate mission.

I

am enthusiastic and supportive of the many new initiatives that occurred in 2013 or are still in the exploration and planning stages. Initiatives, such as the work begun for CALEA to develop a PREA Audit Service for law enforcement, the partnership between CALEA and the Inter- national City and County Management Association (ICMA), and the work with PERF to capitalize on the opportunity to conduct some much needed research, are activities that will strengthen the organization and further extend CALEA’s role in public safety professionalism.

Additionally, operational initiatives such as the online CALEA® Sample Policy Library, the Gold Stan-

dard Assessment option, and the streamlining of the processes, all greatly enhance services to clients and increase the value of CALEA Accreditation.

I am honored to follow in the steps of some outstanding previous chairpersons and will endeavor to lead this worthy organization so that CALEA continues to shape and control its future and remain, as the corporate logo portrays: “The Gold Standard in Public Safety.”

J. GRAYSON ROBINSON CALEA Chairperson/President

MISSION

Since its founding in 1979, CALEA’s overall mission has been to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily through voluntary public safety agency accreditation programs, organized and maintained in the pub- lic interest. Once implemented, these programs function as a management model by offering an agency’s Chief Executive Officer, on a continuing basis, a blueprint that promotes the efficient use of resources, improves service delivery, and strengthens existing procedures; all while creating a solid foundation for the agency’s future.
