Local Optician in the running for another prestigious award

When Alisdair Buchanan started his opticians, Buchanan Optometrists in Snodland his ethos was to have the best equipped practice offering the best service in the country. This is something he and his wife Kathryn have achieved. Backed by a fantastic team it is no wonder they have been short-listed this year for 3 prestigious awards at the National Optician Awards, being presented on 12 April in London. Buchanan Optometrists have won awards for the last 2 years and have been short-listed for numerous awards since 2008. This places them as one of the top 5 opticians in the UK.

Speaking to

explains why they have been so successful - “When I started the practice in 1999, I took over an existing opticians that had been in the town for nearly 40 years. Everyone asked me why I chose Snodland. The practice had a good reputation. That is always a good starting point! Snodland is a lovely town, it allowed us to focus on the important thing of looking after our clients, without  Snodland has free parking and great access from the motorways. From that moment on it has been    told my staff was that we were a “family” - this was a strange concept for anyone to understand as none of us were related. But what I meant was we were a team of people focused on one common goal - offering the best service and best eye care possible. We have  do. Walking through the door you immediately feel comfortable, welcome and relaxed. This may sound a bit odd, but lots of our clients enjoy the time with us. Your whole visit is an amazing experience, something that you

want to tell your friends about. We have invested substantially in the latest technologies to diagnose eye conditions earlier. We are the only opticians in the UK who offer a ground breaking new private glaucoma monitoring clinic. My Dad has glaucoma, and we found that while the NHS does a fantastic job of seeing patients, they are limited by resources so they don’t have access to the latest technologies. We work very closely with the local ophthalmologists, monitoring numerous eye conditions, forwarding these results if any change in treatment regime is required.

In my time owning the practice we have addressed the problems that our clients have experienced in other opticians - we value your time, running on time is important, we listen - something that’s rare nowadays, we recommend the best care for your eyes, the best lenses and use qualified dispensing opticians to help you decide on your perfect frames. I was very excited when we became one of the few opticians in the UK to offer a complete

couture design service - designing   great and no-one else will have the same frame! We have offered this service for many years but it is only recently that we have been able to offer this with plastic or titanium frames. This really is a unique service.

What excites me is seeing the smile on someone’s face when they get the best vision they have ever had, their frames are stunning and comfortable - Creating that optical happiness! The feedback from our clients is amazing and something we really appreciate. Your sight is the most precious sense, we appreciate that, which is why we offer the complete service. Having a comprehensive ophthalmic analysis is the ultimate way to look after your eyes”.

Alisdair’s “family” have been with him for years. It is clear they are all focused on the same objective - everything runs so  is a very relaxing experience visiting their opticians.
