Pair jailed for hammer aack
TWO men who left their victim with a fractured skull following a fight in Maidstone have been jailed for a total of 25 years. Trenton Musgrave (30), of Melville Road, and Liam Quinnell (27), of Bicknor Road, ParkWood, were convicted by a jury following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court. Theywere cleared of attempting
to murder the 35-year-old victim, but found guilty of causing griev- ous bodily harm with intent. Musgravewas jailed for 13 years,
and Quinnell was jailed for 12 years. The pair will be on extended licences when they are eventually released from prison. In the early hours of June 15 last
year, Musgrave and Quinnellwere asked to leave a party in Boxley Road, Maidstone, after an alterca- tion. Later, police received a num- ber of 999 calls saying a man had been hit with a hammer and kicked in the head in Boxley Road. Musgrave first struck the victim
in the back with a hammer and then repeatedly hit him across the head. Quinnell kicked the victim in the head.

hit Musgrave first, believing he was about to be assaulted. The victim suffered a fractured
skull andwas rushed to King’sCol- lege Hospital in London. Musgrave was encouraged by
his girlfriend to hand himself in, and went to Maidstone police sta- tion on June 16 where he was ar- rested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Quinnell was also arrested and charged with attempted murder. They were cleared of attempted murder, but found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. DC Wes Marston said: “The fe-
rocity of the attack couldwell have been enough to inflict fatal in- juries.”
Crash deaths inquest opens
INQUESTS have been opened into the deaths of two teenagers fol- lowing an accident on the A20 at Bearsted. Gary Ring (18), from Maidstone, was killed when the Ford Ka he
was driving left the road, rolled over and crashed into trees. His cousin Brett Pearson (19), also from Maidstone and a passen-
ger in the car, died later in a London hospital. Police renewed their call for witnesses to the accident early on Saturday, January 25. Flowers continue to be left at the scene and messages poured in on
a Facebook tribute page. Chantel-Louise Ring wrote: “I love you both unconditionally and
if love alone could save you, you neverwould have died. Sleep tight myhandsome angels, I’ll see you again one day.” Both inquestswere adjourned and are likely to be heard in May. Anyone with information should call Kent police on 01622 798538.
Five days of music in town
MAIDSTONE’S restaurants and pubs will serve up a giant helping of music for the fourth Maidstone Fringe Festival on May 1-5. Venues already lining up acts for

in Jubilee Square. Fans of stand-up comedy can enjoy showcases at the Walnut Tree, Druids Arms and Step- ping Stone Studios. The Style &Winch in Union Street
will hold a music all-dayer on the Monday.
Events hall to open at showground
A NEW £1.5 million conference and events facility is due to open at the Kent Event Centre in Detling this spring. The facilitywill seat up to 4,000 people in theatre style, and should be ready
to start hosting events fromthe end of April. It will be officially opened by the Kent County Agricultural Society at the Kent County Show in July.
