News Army helps charity to expand

SPRING will see the emergence of new shoots at Barming’s Black- thorn Trust – and not just in its garden. The charity, which runs a café,

plant nursery, charity cabin and art and craft courses at its base in St Andrew’s Road, has started work on a new building for therapies. The trust offers medical care, spe-

cialist therapies and rehabilitation to people with mental or physical health problems, through work in the Blackthorn garden. Maidstone Council and the Cob-

tree Foundation have agreed that if support from local businesses – in the shape of time, materials or money – is forthcoming, they will

Homes scheme WEALDENHomes has downsized its proposal for housing in Valley Drive, Loose. The developer’s two previous re-

fusals, for eight and seven homes respectively, involved the demoli- tion of Nos 41 and 56. Maidstone Council and planning inspectors felt the proposals would visually harm the area. The latest proposal is for six de-

tached homes and the retention of No 41.
