DECEMBER 2013 THE RIDER /11
Niagara Equestrians At The Podium In Calgary
As Brenda Robson,
reflects on her experience at the Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships in Calgary, as the Reining Disci- pline Coach, and she most likes to recall the team spirit and mutual encouragement amongst the riders, the coach- es, and the parents. “I am quite honored to have coached this committed group of riders on the reining team.” Team Ontario’s reiners
took the bronze team medal with only 3 riders which left us with only one junior score to count towards the overall points. All riders were mount- ed on quality lease horses that they’d only ridden for 2 days prior to the start of the compe- tition. All of them rode their best and we saw improvement each day as they gained under- standing of the horses. Rob- son compliments the mature effort from Jesse Pecore, of Stoney Creek. “On day 2, we strategized Jesse’s pattern and how his mental game plan could bring the best out in his leased horse. In high form, Jesse achieved an outstanding ride and scored 71.5, earning himself the individual silver medal for reining.” Becoming a high perfor-
mance coach with Equine Canada has been a career dream for Brenda Robson, and part of reaching that dream is meeting the requirements of the federation. “I have been trained to coach and I coach to win. As I look forward now to 2014, I plan use my NCCP High Performance training to help develop another reining team to take a spot on the podium for Ontario again.” Collectively, the Ontario
riders excelled in achieving many personal best rides which resulted in Team Ontario receiving the overall Provincial Silver medal. Each discipline of the team also medaled in their division with dressage and jumping being awarded the gold team medals and the reiners securing the bronze team medal. Individu- ally, there were an abundance of medals for Ontario riders. Jumpers, Junior Bronze - Christine Carlsen of North York, Senior Bronze - Jacque- line Chevalier of Tecumseh, Dressage Junior Gold – Vanessa Creech-Terauds of Caistor Centre, Junior Bronze – Georgia Wade of Fonthill, Senior Bronze – Natalie Tourikian of Richmond Hill. Reining,Senior Silver – Jesse Pecore of Stoney Creek. The team was strongly supported by the Provincial Sport Office, the Ontario Equestrian Federa-
tion and a number of generous busi- ness sponsors for team apparel, equine blankets, show pads and shirts and transportation. The CIEC acts as a key event in
the development of Canada’s next generation of national, international and world champion equestrians. It is
the premier opportunity for talented developing riders to test their skills against their peers from across Cana- da. In addition, it is a platform for talent identification for athletes, coaches and officials.
