Management training and GrowthAccelerator

Although many government services have been cut, there is still support available for leadership and management training through the GrowthAccelerator service. David Podger, managing director of Thames Valley Training & Development, explains how your business can take advantage of the opportunity

What is GrowthAccelerator? Dame Stephanie Shirley

GrowthAccelerator is a service that helps ambitious businesses find new connections, new routes to investment, and the new ideas and strategy they need to achieve their full potential. The service is designed to help businesses grow through expert business coaching, workshops and masterclasses. If you are accepted onto the service then you can apply for up to £2,000 match funding for leadership and management training for each of your senior decision-makers. Thames Valley Training & Development is one of the training providers working with GrowthAccelerator.

There are four awards categories:

• Woman of the Year (Large Business) – over £10m turnover • Woman of the Year (SME) – under £10m turnover • Rising Star – under the age of 30

• Outstanding Contribution to Diversity – to be awarded to the project, campaign, company or individual that has excelled in this field in the past 12 months.

Nominations are invited from private-sector businesses, public- sector organisations, charities, and the professions.

Women in Business is not just an awards scheme. The campaign will identify woman role models, encourage mentoring and focus on citizenship, while creating a forum for businesswomen to discuss the issues of the day.

Judges will meet in August to decide on five shortlisted finalists for each category.

Demand for tickets for the Women in Business finals is expected to be high. To secure your table of 12 at £1,140 ex VAT or individual places at £95 each ex VAT, email Linda Morse at linda@elcot.co.uk

Sponsors Who can apply?

The service is intended for businesses with fewer than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £40 million. Not every eligible business is suitable for GrowthAccelerator, and you and your appointed growth manager will explore whether your business has the ambition, capacity and opportunity to achieve high growth.

How much will it cost to join?

Your contribution will depend on the size of your business. For example, for businesses with less than five employees the start-up business fees are as little as £600. With government co-investing in the growth of your business and making a major contribution towards the overall cost, you pay only a one-off fixed fee.

training. In addition, you'll become part of a high-growth community.

What size grant can my business get?

For leadership and management training, you can apply for up to £2,000 per senior manager (or manager involved at a strategic level) as long as you are able to match it with funding from your organisation.

What can I use it for?

Any leadership and management training you apply for must be used to help develop your business’ ability to grow. It can’t be used for statutory or mandatory training – but there is a broad area of training covered, as long as the training is for senior members of your team working at a strategic level. For example you may wish to develop the skills of your board, or increase the financial knowledge of your non-finance managers – indeed TVT&D is already developing training for several local businesses to improve the effectiveness of their senior sales people.

How do I find out more?

We would be more than happy to explain how the service works and what you need to do to take advantage of it. You can also find out more information by visiting www.growthaccelerator.com
