EarthFest at Overpeck Park
he Hackensack Riverkeepers will hold their inaugural EarthFest celebration April 26 and 27 at Overpeck County Park, in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, with a fishing derby, green events, live music, food, a pharmaceutical take-back, open kayaking, recovery and rescue demonstrations and a beer garden. The event also marks the 2014 opening of the Overpeck Park Kayak Center, making it the perfect weekend for a celebration of all things ecological. A Recycled Regatta will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, with signup and inspection at 8:30 a.m. Entrants are encouraged to come up with imaginative ways to turn common household waste into a life‐sized racing vessel. The goal is to have fun on the Overpeck Creek while encouraging people to reduce, reuse and recycle. Teams are encouraged to raise funds for Hackensack Riverkeeper by recruiting friends and family to sponsor their team. The team raising the most funds will receive a prize for all team members (up to 10 maximum). Proceeds benefit Hackensack Riverkeeper in their mission to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River.
Sunday features a major-league spring cleanup along the waterway from noon until 4 p.m..
