• Richard Light has been appointed by Bournemouth- based law firm Lester Aldridge as a director in the tax, trusts and wills team. Light has a wealth of experience in advising high- net-worth individuals on all aspects of personal taxation, including income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax, as well as related offshore elements. He also has considerable experience in advising shareholders on their tax planning, with a particular emphasis on the ultimate sale of their business. After a period of initial training at HMRC, he worked at Deloitte for 24 years at a number of locations in London and on the south coast, where he qualified as a chartered tax adviser.
• Eric Robinson Solicitors has appointed employment law specialist Thomas Hunt to its office in Southampton. He joins as a senior solicitor and head of employment/immigration. Since studying law at the University of East Anglia, Hunt has had an enthusiasm and passion for employment law. “During my course, I was fortunate to be taught by Professor Ian Smith, who is one of the UK’s leading authorities in the profession,“ he explained. Hunt graduated in 2005, before achieving his LPC with commendation from the Inns of Court School of Law. After spending a year with the Home Office, specialising in judicial review cases before the High Court, he moved to Basingstoke to embark on two years’ training and, in 2009, began his career as a fully- qualified solicitor, advising a wide range of commercial clients from FT100 companies to small businesses in litigation and employment matters.
• WK Corporate Finance LLP has appointed Jane Orme as corporate finance manager. Orme joins the company from the Southampton office of law firm Trethowans LLP where she worked as a corporate finance solicitor. She has experience in M&A transactions ranging from £1 million to £50m including acquisitions, sales, investments and a number of private-equity-backed management buyouts Based predominantly at the firm’s Winchester and Southampton offices, Orme will work on deals across the UK alongside corporate finance director Philippa Robinson and the London-based team led by Andy Coghlan. Robinson commented: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Jane. With extensive deal management experience, excellent industry contacts and a solid legal background, she is a real asset to the firm.“
• A key recruit has joined Southampton, Brighton and Marlow-based Quantuma Restructuring. Andrew Watling has joined the firm as director, having over 20 years’ experience in advising distressed companies and individuals with financial issues. He is an insolvency practitioner and has previously held positions at local accountancy firm Knights & Company, Middleton Partners and then Begbies Traynor. He has also worked within the business support unit at Lloyds Bank.
• Clive Thomson, partner at Paris Smith, has been appointed an associate member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS). ACTAPS is the blue-ribbon standard for lawyers specialising in contested trust, probate and inheritance cases. To achieve the ACTAPS qualification Thomson cited his extensive experience of acting in contested matters.
• PW Payroll Solutions (PWPS) has taken on two new members of staff. Ben Pilley (centre right) and Nancy Ryder (centre left) have joined the BACS registered payroll bureau as payroll administrators. Their recruitment coincides with PWPS moving to the offices of parent company Princecroft Willis, the chartered accountants and business advisers at Poole. Formerly based at New Milton, PWPS has been providing payroll solutions in the south for more than 20 years. The bureau employs seven people and is looking to take on a further two.

• Marine interior refurbishment specialist Trimline has appointed Colin Stapley as business development manager to head up its new catering department which will offer design, sales, installation and maintenance of catering equipment for galleys, pantries and laundries. Stapley joins Trimline after managing Kempsafe, a marine catering company, for the past five years. Gary Oliver, managing director at Trimline, said: “The addition of a catering department will allow us to offer greater support and service to the cruise, ferry, offshore, defence and super yacht industries.“
