pride. I sensed real conviction in each competitor as I watch him or her prepare to compete. Te one event that really stood out to me was the new event team ice skating. It really got me thinking about how each individual’s performance was so important to the overall outcome of the event. But in the end, it was the team that would triumph as a whole. All the team members were cheering and motivating each other to achieve perfection. Do you do enough to cheer on and motivate your team? People work so hard to be the best at what they

do, but why is that? Are we all secretly hoping for the interview with Bob Costas, despite the pink eye? For me, it’s the satisfaction that I’ve helped my team succeed. As a professional, I do my best to be a good
leader to my team at STN Media Group. I try to provide support and guidance to my team so they can be empowered to achieve their goals. I want people to have pride in their work and understand it’s important so we can all succeed. I’m sure you feel the same about your team. In talking with many industry professionals over the years at districts, I’m constantly reminded of the
passion people have, knowing they are contributing to keeping children safe. Tat passion can be found in all areas of transportation, especially in the bus barns and garages. In this March issue, we focus on maintenance and the people who make school buses run. I think it’s
important to recognize everyone on the team, and the guys and gals in the garage deserve that extra pat on the back and encouragement. Without them, diagnosing, changing, refilling, updating and fixing our school buses simply wouldn’t run, or at least not for very long, without them. I want to recognize the technicians, mechanics, shop foreman and fleet supervisors out there who take
ownership of their maintenance shops and fleets. Be sure you do the same. Tese professionals make sure the buses are ready so bus drivers can provide a service for students and
parents. In the end, it’s a team effort to make the school bus routes run seamlessly. An organization that I want to recognize is America's Best. Tis event is the closest thing out there to the
Olympics in our industry for bus technicians and school bus inspectors. It’s a great event for technicians to compete against the best of the best. Te judges are looking at competitor’s performance at each event and rank them based on their performance. Recognition awards are given out to the winners at the conclusion of the event. See the previous winners at
www.americasbesttech.org. Not everyone ends up with a gold, silver or bronze medal, but there is something that can be learned
from the stories of hard work, drive and passion that school transportation professionals display. If it’s the effort of a single individual or the whole team, the goals that are being met benefit everyone — customers included. We should always strive to be the best and go for the gold!
s I’ve been watching the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, I’ve seen numerous events like downhill skiing, ice skating, moguls skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey and more. Each athlete has been training hard to strive for perfection in their respective event. As I see these athletes blaze a trail down the mountain or land that double axel they are all fighting for their countries'
