tion could help contribute to lower total operating costs. Engine Analysis for Extended Service offers additional testing to support an argument with your engine supplier for ODI (Optimized Drain Inter- val) program as well as advanced testing to help you more closely monitor the health of your engine When employing oil analysis, make certain you
fill out labels that accompany your sample. Be sure to list the motor oil type used in your engine, because analysis is different for API CJ-4 and CI-4 PLUS motor oils. Also, note if you added any oil between oil drains and what type was used.
SCHOOL BUS LUBRICATION
One of the most important things you can do to maintain your school bus during its scheduled LOF is to make sure it has been greased properly; there are numerous points on a school bus chassis that require lubrication by grease. Tese include wheel bearings, kingpins, tie rods, slack adjusters, brake cams, suspension bushings, the clutch-release system and universal joints. Many different types of greases are suitable for use in medium- and heavy-duty chassis applications, but they must all have certain properties in common, so discuss the following with your supplier to find out if your lu-
brication is going to do the job you are hoping for:
• Grease must be usable over a wide temperature range
• Resist water washout • Resist excessive oil bleed and softening due to mechanical action
• Protect against rust and corrosion in wet environments
• Protect against wear under heavy loads • Be easy to handle
Always use premium lithium-complex greases
made from a combination of proven performance additives. Tese greases provide excellent load- carrying ability, oxidation stability, rust protection, and the ability to adhere to metal surfaces and resist water wash-off.
