his month our theme is heart health. There’s the physi- cal health of the heart and the emotional health of the heart, and our thoughts and habits affect both. If you’re reading this magazine, the odds are good that you’re looking to improve your overall health. What better place to start than with your heart? Picture your heart for a moment. Sit back and visualize exactly what it’s doing. Feel the pulsating rhythm.

Spend a few minutes in silence and ask yourself, “What in my life causes stress

on my heart? What can I do to have less stress in my life?” Here are some of my leading stress factors: Deadlines, a busy schedule, not having enough time or money to do all I want

to do.

If there is nothing more important than our health, then why aren’t we all spending more time and effort to make our health better by reducing the stress in our lives? We can then ask ourselves, “What in my life warms my heart? What can I do to

have more of this in my life?” Make a list of all the things that warm your heart. You can write them down or

go through the list visually. Feel the appreciation and warmth of each item touch your heart and flow through you. Here are just some of mine: My family, our friends, our pets, our home, my job, reading a good book, writing letters, getting mail, helping others, planning a vacation, going to a spa/retreat/con- ference, hearing from people who love Natural Awakenings (thank you!). How can we tip the scale to have more warmth, joy and goodness in our lives right

now and every day? All the research and literature on this says the same thing: Appreci- ation is the key. Appreciation warms our heart and makes us glow. No matter how bad things are, they can always be worse. And no matter how bad your life may seem to be, someone else has it worse. It’s just a fact of life. My heart is being warmed at this moment by giving thanks to each of you read-
