[INDUSTRY NEWS] LEEA, a leading representative body
for all those involved in the lifting industry worldwide, plays key roles for member companies from training and standards setting to health and safety, the provision of technical and legal advice, and the development of examination and licensing systems. According to the Eastern Daily Press,
3 Sun managing director Graham Hacon, said: “Working within the oil and gas and renewable energy industries it is essential that we have the required accreditation in place and, as a world-renowned industry body, LEEA was a key priority for us. “With the recent acquisition of a sling
press which allows in-house manufacturing of wire rope slings, this membership will continue the group’s developing presence in the lifting industry.” In the near future, the group planned
to buy a test bed and a test rig, allowing 3Sun to provide a more complete service for testing and servicing lifting equipment. Mr. Hacon said: “3Sun has grown steadily and significantly over its six years in operation and we are always looking for ways to up-skill and train our staff to ensure our clients receive the very highest standard of service.” y

NCCCO to Off er Certifi cation, Safety Demos, Examiner Workshops at CONEXPO 2014
> Live equipment demonstrations, nationally accredited certification examinations, education sessions, and practical examiner training will all go to make for the largest ever participation at any construction event in almost two decades by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators(NCCCO) at the forthcoming CONEXPO/CON-AGG, the Virginia-based non-profit organization has announced. New candidates and existing certificates alike
will be given an opportunity to take a wide variety of ANSI-accredited and OSHA-compliant CCO written, practical, and recertification exams at CONEXPO/CON-AGG, to be held March 4–8, 2014, in Las Vegas, NV. And thanks to NCCCO’s “Visit CONEXPO—Leave Certified” program featuring onsite scoring and immediate test results, successful candidates will be able to walk away from the event certified. Additionally, practical examiner workshops for most CCO programs will be conducted onsite before and after the exposition. NCCCO will again co-sponsor the Lift
Safety Zone now relocated to the Gold Lot; the acknowledged “nexus” of the show’s crane exhibits. NCCCO is also sponsoring a series of educational seminars in CONEXPO’s new Crane & Rigging track developed at the request of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). All of these activities promote safe practices on construction sites and illustrate the need for qualified personnel, in line with state and federal requirements. The once-every-three-years equipment
showcase will feature over 2,400 exhibitors and is expected to draw more than 130,000 attendees. “CONEXPO/CON-AGG provides an excellent opportunity for expo attendees to earn or renew their CCO certifications while attending one of the largest events of its kind in the world,” noted NCCCO Executive Director Graham Brent. y
Submit your Nomination for the 2014 Top Trainer Award
> MCM Group Inc. and the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP) announce that they have opened the nomination process for 2014 Top Trainers. Nominations will be accepted until July 31, 2014.
Last year saw a 35% increase in the
number of nominations over 2012. Most years, the magazine receives an equal number of nominations for both Professional and Corporate categories. Professional trainers are those employed by training companies or divisions of companies primarily engaged in training. Corporate trainers come from companies whose employer is primarily engaged in some other activity, such as manufacturing, distribution, rigging supply, insurance, specialty and general contracting, crane inspection, crane rental, and other services. The goal of the awards program is to
bring attention to the importance of quality training in reducing crane and rigging accidents. It aligns closely with ACRP’s mission of improving crane operations and rigging activities through education. “We appreciate the ACRP’s endorsement of the program and their professional expertise in judging the nominations,” said Parrish. Trainers are recognized for having a positive
impact on students, the work environment or the industry through the use of innovative training techniques or hands-on instruction, by encouraging peer or corporate accountability, and/or through quantitative or anecdotal evidence that the training was successful. There is no fee associated with making
a nomination and the first 30 people to submit a complete nomination will receive a 2014 Hot Line Crane Guide, which features data on crane models from more than 100 manufacturers. Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the 2015 ACRP General Assembly meeting. Other prizes include training or educational scholarships. The 2013 winners, Hank Dutton of
Travelers Insurance Co., and Angelo Alverio of Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau, will be honored at the May 13-16, 2014 ACRP General Assembly meeting in Nashville, Tenn. y
